Reflexology works with subtle energy flows revitalising the body so that the natural internal healing mechanisms of the body can do their own work.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is an ancient, hands on technique based upon the knowledge that the entire body is reflected as a system of reflexes on the feet (hands and ears as well). Pressing on these reflexes, promotes relaxation and balance in the body, assisting in overall detoxification and stress reduction.
What are the benefits of Reflexology?
- Promotes balance and normalisation of the body naturally
- Reduces stress and brings about deep relaxation
- Stimulates circulation and the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the cells
- Cleanses the body of toxins and impurities
- Balances the whole system (homeostasis/equilibrium)
- Revitalises energy
- Preventative health care
- Stimulates creativity and productivity
A brief history of reflexology
Whilst the art of reflexology dates back to Ancient Egypt, India and China, this therapy was not introduced to the West until Dr William Fitzgerald developed 'Zone therapy'. He believed that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone. In the 1930's, Eunice Ingham further developed this zone theory into what is known as reflexology. Her opinion was that congestion or tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.
How will I feel after a reflexology treatment?
After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very noticeable way. Most people note a sense of well-being and relaxation.
How does it work?
Reflexology works with subtle energy flows revitalising the body so that the natural internal healing mechanisms of the body can do their own work. The reflexologist is a channel for healing. The laying on of hands and the specific techniques for applying pressure to the feet create the channels for healing energy to circulate to all parts of the body. Sometimes people do experience better health a marked reduction or disappearance of the ailment, but it is not the reflexologist or the session that cured. The treatment facilitated the body to cure itself (only the body cures). Modern reflexology is both a science and an art. As a science, it requires careful study, faithful practice, a sound knowledge of the techniques and skill. As one of the healing arts reflexology achieves the best results when the reflexologist works with dedication, patience, focused intention and above all loving care.
