Reiki Training
Accreditation or not?
What does accreditation actually give you?
Reiki Training Courses Accreditation or not?
And what does accreditation status actually give you?
The question of whether or not Reiki should be subject to accreditation is a complex one. Some argue that accreditation can provide a level of quality assurance for those seeking Reiki training, ensuring that they receive instruction from qualified and experienced teachers. Others feel that instead of focusing on accreditation, students of Reiki should focus on finding a reputable Reiki master/teacher who can provide authentic training, guidance and support.
Reiki is NOT a regulated practice, and there is no governing body that oversees the accreditation of Reiki courses. While some individuals may choose to pursue accreditation with recognised organisations, others argue that the practice of Reiki is fundamentally holistic and therefore not subject to regulation or accreditation in the same way as other forms of healthcare.
The question arises as to whether accreditation status for Reiki training makes sense. The fact that accreditation status for training in Reiki does not necessarily align with the founding principles of the practice itself is another argument. If Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, were to apply for accreditation today, it is possible that he would be refused, as his teachings do not necessarily conform to the standards set by modern accreditation bodies.
Accreditation does not guarantee that a practitioner will be successful in their Reiki practice. Success in Reiki ultimately depends on the practitioner’s ability to connect with the energy and use it effectively to promote healing and balance in their clients.
Therefore, the effectiveness of Reiki training cannot be judged based on accreditation status.
While I have been personally investigating the possibility of becoming an accredited training provider, I have sadly learned that it would be a waste of my time, resources and energy.
Let me explain, the accreditation criteria varies vastly between organisations. There is the high criteria organisation where accreditation is difficult and expensive to obtain; the one where should Mikao Usui himself apply, would most likely be refused. This teaching approach limits the learning and experience of reiki, which should be free flowing, instead placing unnecessary stress on the reiki students.
I personally, do not want to impose these unnecessary conformities on the students. Instead, I prefer to allow Reiki to be what it is; a simple, uncluttered system of healing and balance.
Then there is the low criteria organisation where accreditation status can be obtained for the cost of an annual fee and membership around £190. However, there is no added value for the student, except perhaps the word accreditation on their certificate!
In conclusion, I am a qualified and experienced reiki master/ teacher, my training courses are not currently accredited by choice. However I have been providing professional reiki training courses fro over 10 years, with full support given to all students from beginner to mastership. High quality, comprehensive training materials are supplied and monthly reiki share provided.
I am currently a Master/Teacher member with the UK Reiki Federation and I receive all the member benefits associated with this. (You do not need to be accredited to join)!
