Holistic Therapist

Having discovered Reiki in 2005, I became fascinated by the body’s natural ability to restore balance and wellbeing. As my confidence grew as a practitioner, I found myself increasingly interested in other complementary therapies that viewed health from a holistic perspective.

As my experience grew, so did my curiosity. Reiki has led me to explore several specialist modalities over the years, including Reiki Drum Practitioner and Reiki Drum Master Teacher training with Catherine Birkenhead and Melanie Pitman. As a former bass player, I have always been drawn to rhythm and vibration, so combining the healing qualities of Reiki with the drum felt like a natural progression. I also love working with Five Elements Reiki, exploring the energies of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water to help restore balance and harmony. These approaches complement my wider therapy work beautifully and continue to inspire my practice today.

This healing curiosity led me to Reflexology.

What immediately captured my interest was the incredible way the entire body is mapped on the feet. The more I learned, the more fascinated I became. Reflexology is far more than a relaxing foot treatment; it offers a unique insight into the body as a whole. I was amazed by how much information could be gathered through observing and working with the feet, and how often those observations reflected a person’s physical, emotional and energetic wellbeing.

Over the years I have been fortunate to study with a number of highly respected teachers, each bringing their own perspective and expertise to my learning. My training journey has included Chris Cozens (Life Arts), Michelle Andreou (Phoenix, City & Guilds), and Sam Belyea, widely known as the Foot Whisperer. Each tutor has helped deepen my understanding of this ancient therapy and broaden my appreciation of the many ways reflexology can support wellbeing.

My studies didn’t stop there. I also undertook specialist Masterclass  Reflexology Supporting Pregnancy, further developing my understanding of how reflexology can be adapted safely and effectively during pregnancy.

One of my personal philosophies is that I only offer therapies that I genuinely enjoy receiving myself. I believe it is important to invest in my own wellbeing and continue experiencing treatments from the client’s perspective. To this day, I have reflexology monthly as part of my own self-care routine. Not only does it help me maintain my health and wellbeing, but it also reminds me what it feels like to be on the receiving end of a treatment and continually inspires my own practice.

Another treatment that I found beneficial for me was Indian Head Massage.

I love the versatility of Indian Head Massage. It can be stimulating and energising when needed, yet equally capable of promoting deep relaxation and calm. As someone who frequently experiences tension in my own neck and shoulders, I know first hand how effective the treatment can be for releasing areas of tightness and stress.

For those who have never experienced an Indian Head Massage, the name can be a little misleading. Whilst the scalp massage is often what people remember most, it is only one part of the treatment. The session begins with work on the neck and shoulders before moving to the arms and hands. Our hands do so much for us every day, yet we rarely give them the attention they deserve.

In fact, thinking back, one of the very first treatments I ever learned was hand massage during an aromatherapy course through Adult Learning at The Friary in Maldon many years ago. Looking back now, perhaps that was the beginning of a much longer journey!

After working with the arms and hands, the treatment progresses to the scalp, followed by facial pressure points and finally a balancing of the upper chakras. It is a wonderfully nurturing and complete treatment experience.

I trained with a couple of teachers Sarah Lane (London Therapies) and later with Michelle Andreou through (Phoenix, City & Guilds). Completing both Reflexology and Indian Head Massage through City & Guilds accredited pathways opened further professional opportunities, as the qualifications are recognised by both the Association of Reflexologists (AoR) and the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT). Membership of these organisations has provided access to valuable resources, professional support and ongoing specialist training throughout my career.

Naturally, my interest in the facial work included within Indian Head Massage led me towards facial treatments.

I trained in Facial Treatments with Chantelle Sutton (Trade Secrets, Beauty Guild) and have continued to develop my own style of treatment. Today, I incorporate beautiful Rose Quartz Gua Sha tools to help release tension held within the jaw, encourage relaxation and create a luxurious treatment experience.

I currently use a carefully selected combination of Eve Taylor London, Neal’s Yard Remedies and UpCircle products, all of which are cruelty-free and chosen for their quality and effectiveness.

Looking back, each therapy I have studied has built upon the last. Reiki introduced me to the world of energy work. Reflexology revealed the remarkable connections that exist throughout the body. Indian Head Massage deepened my appreciation of the healing power of touch and relaxation. Facial Therapy added another dimension of nurturing self-care and wellbeing.

Together, these therapies form the foundation of the work I offer today.

Above all, my aim is to create a warm, supportive and nurturing environment where clients can step away from the demands of everyday life and gain the greatest possible benefit from their treatment, Whether someone visits for Reflexology, Reiki, Indian Head Massage or a Facial, I hope they leave feeling relaxed, supported and a little more connected to themselves than when they arrived.

After more than two decades of learning, practising and continuing to develop my skills, I remain as passionate about holistic therapies as I was when I first discovered Reiki in 2005. Every client is unique, every treatment is different, and I still feel privileged to be able to support people on their own wellbeing journey.

Reiki Master Teacher

When I attended my Reiki Level 1 training in 2005 with Sue Jones in Witham, I had no idea where the journey would lead.

At the time, my intention was simply to learn Reiki for my own personal wellbeing. After progressing quickly to Reiki Level 2 through Reiki Evolution, I was fascinated by the energy and the positive effect it had on my life, but I had no plans to become a practitioner or teacher.

Life, however, had other ideas.

Following our move to Christchurch, New Zealand, Reiki became a wonderful way to connect with like-minded people in a new country. I was fortunate to become part of a lovely group of therapists and healers who offered community mind-body-spirit events in aid of local charities. These events were hosted by the amazing Sheila Thompson, whose passion for bringing people together created a supportive and welcoming environment for both practitioners and visitors alike.

Having completed Reiki Level 2 and obtained professional insurance, I was delighted join them and offer Reiki treatments at these events. It was a privilege to share the practice with others and witness first-hand the benefits that many people experienced.

During my time in New Zealand, I felt drawn to deepen my studies further and undertook Reiki Mastership training with Taggart King, founder of Reiki Evolution. The training was both inspiring and transformative. To my surprise, I began to feel ready to share Reiki not only as a practitioner but also as a teacher.

Unfortunately, life once again had other plans.

The devastating Christchurch earthquakes changed the course of many lives, including our own. My plans to teach Reiki were placed on hold as we focused on rebuilding, adapting and eventually making the decision to return to the United Kingdom.

When we came home in 2012, the timing finally felt right. I began teaching Reiki and sharing the system that had supported me through so many of life’s experiences.

What I love most about Reiki is its simplicity. It is accessible to almost anyone, yet it offers a lifetime of learning and personal development. Whether someone wishes to use Reiki for self-care, family and friends, professional practice or spiritual growth, it can become a valuable companion on their journey.

Alongside traditional Reiki training, I have continued to explore specialist areas that particularly resonate with me.

One of these is Reiki Drum. I’ve always loved rhythm and vibration, perhaps unsurprising given that I was a bass player in a band for many years. Reiki Drum combines the healing energy of Reiki with the vibration and rhythm of the drum, creating a powerful and protective healing technique. The drum adds another dimension to the work, helping to shift energy and facilitate deep relaxation and transformation.

Another specialist training I am delighted to offer is Five Elements Reiki. This approach explores the subtle energetic relationships found within the Traditional Chinese Medicine element system: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Understanding these elemental energies provides valuable insight into our physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

This naturally complements another passion of mine, Qi Gong. Both Reiki and Qi Gong work with energy, balance and flow, and I have discovered that the two practices support one another beautifully. The wisdom of the Five Elements can be explored through both systems, creating a rich and fascinating framework for personal growth and healing.

More than twenty years after my first Reiki class, I remain as passionate about Reiki as ever. It has connected me with wonderful teachers, students and friends, supported me through significant life events, and continues to inspire me every day.

Whether you are curious about Reiki for your own wellbeing, wish to become a practitioner, or simply feel called to explore something new, I would be delighted to welcome you onto your own Reiki journey.

Yoga & Qi Gong Instructor

My yoga journey began when I was seventeen years old.

At the time, I was working at County Hall and lunchtime yoga classes were being offered to staff. I can no longer remember the teacher’s name, but I remember her clearly. She was a traditional yoga teacher, complete with the classic leotard that seemed synonymous with yoga in those days!

What stayed with me most, however, was not what she wore but how she taught. She had a wonderfully soft and gentle manner, and I particularly remember the relaxation and visualisation practices at the end of each class. Even then, I recognised how different I felt afterwards, calmer, more balanced and more connected to myself.

That first class sparked an interest that has remained with me throughout my life.

Over the years I have been fortunate to learn from many wonderful teachers, each bringing something unique to my understanding of yoga. Among them were Ted Frost, Elaine Fletcher, Katie Lane (NZ) and Benita Galvan (NZ).

One teacher who had a particularly significant influence on my journey was Ted Frost. Ted introduced me to the philosophy of yoga, helping me appreciate that yoga was far more than a series of physical postures. He was also the person who encouraged me to enrol on the British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Course with Elaine Fletcher.

I thoroughly enjoyed the course and it planted a seed that would eventually grow into teacher training.

In 2006 I began my original yoga teacher training, excited about the possibility of sharing yoga with others. However, life had other plans. In 2007 my husband, dog Hendrix and I emigrated to New Zealand, and my training was placed on hold whilst we embraced a new chapter of our lives.

Although my teacher training paused, my yoga journey certainly did not.

In New Zealand I met some truly inspiring teachers and was introduced to Anusara Yoga, a heart-centred style of Hatha Yoga that deeply resonated with me. Inspired by the teachings, I undertook the Anusara Immersions with Katie Lane and Benita Galvan.

I completed two of the three immersions before the Christchurch earthquakes changed everything.

In fact, one of the earthquakes struck overnight whilst I was attending a yoga workshop with teacher Noah Maze. The roads were badly damaged, making it impossible for me to return for the following day’s training. Like so many experiences during that period, it became another reminder that life doesn’t always follow the plans we make.

Following our return to the United Kingdom in 2012, I was able to resume my teacher training with Elaine Fletcher, by then an NVQ qualification, and finally begin teaching yoga classes.

Many years later, in 2021, I was delighted to complete my final Anusara Immersion with Benita Galvan (UK), bringing a long chapter of study full circle.

Alongside my broader yoga training, I have always been interested in adapting yoga to support people with different health needs. This led me to undertake the British Wheel of Yoga’s Yoga for People Living with Cancer training programme, originally developed by Julie Friedeberger and later taught by Kari Knight.

It was an incredibly comprehensive and inspiring course that deepened my understanding of how yoga can be adapted to support people through challenging times. I taught these specialist classes for a period and gained valuable experience from doing so. Looking back, I feel these classes are often best suited to hospice or healthcare settings, where participants share a common experience. If I were to revisit this area in the future, I would likely offer a broader “Yoga for Healing” programme, creating a more inclusive space for people living with a variety of health conditions.

One of the greatest lessons yoga has taught me is that our bodies continually change.

The yoga I practised in my teens is not the same yoga I practised in my twenties and thirties. Equally, the yoga I teach in my forties and fifties has evolved alongside my own body and experience.

Every body has its own unique blueprint. Age, posture, lifestyle (including diet), injuries, surgery, health conditions and anatomy all influence how we move. Yoga is not about forcing the body into shapes; it is about working with the body you have today.

This philosophy forms the foundation of my teaching.

My classes are suitable for beginners and I always aim to offer modifications where needed. I encourage students to work at their own pace, honouring their bodies rather than comparing themselves to others.

I also teach Chair Yoga for those who find getting down to the floor, and perhaps more importantly getting back up again, a little challenging. Chair Yoga is often misunderstood as being purely gentle or relaxing. Whilst relaxation is certainly part of the experience, students are often surprised by how much movement, strengthening and energising work can be achieved from a chair.

As the years passed, I found myself increasingly drawn towards gentler, flowing movement practices in my own life. This naturally led me to discover Qi Gong.

Qi Gong shares many similarities with yoga in its focus on breath, movement, balance and wellbeing, yet it has its own unique character. I was captivated by the flowing movements and the emphasis on cultivating and balancing energy throughout the body.

My own Qi Gong teaching has been heavily influenced by Lee Holden, whose approach makes the practice accessible, enjoyable and suitable for a wide range of people. Drawing inspiration from the many styles of Qi Gong he has studied over the years, I have developed a teaching style that blends flowing movement, breath awareness and mindful practice into classes that are both enjoyable and restorative.

Today, yoga and Qi Gong complement one another beautifully within my life and teaching. Both encourage us to slow down, become more aware of our bodies and reconnect with ourselves amidst the busyness of modern life.

Looking back, it is remarkable to think that a lunchtime yoga class at seventeen years old would lead to a lifelong journey of learning, teaching and personal growth.

The practices have supported me through major life changes, including emigration, earthquakes, returning home and the many transitions that naturally come with the passing of time. They continue to evolve with me, just as I continue to evolve with them.

Whether you join me for Yoga or Qi Gong, my hope is that you leave class feeling a little stronger, a little calmer and a little more connected to yourself than when you arrived.

First Aid Instructor

People are often surprised to learn that my first aid journey began long before I became a first aid instructor.

As a yoga teacher, I have held an Emergency First Aid at Work qualification since 2012, ensuring I could provide a safe environment for my students and respond appropriately should an emergency arise. Over the years, regularly renewing this qualification became an important part of my professional practice.

However, I wanted to deepen my knowledge and understanding beyond the basics. This led me to complete the three-day First Aid at Work (FAW) qualification, giving me a broader range of skills and confidence to deal with a variety of first aid situations.

My passion for teaching naturally inspired the next step. Having spent many years teaching yoga, Reiki and wellbeing courses, I decided to undertake the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET), enabling me to share these vital life-saving skills with others. This qualification allowed me to begin offering first aid workshops and accredited training courses to individuals, businesses and community groups.

As both a teacher and lifelong learner, I believe it is important to continue developing my own skills. I am currently undertaking IREC First Responder training to further enhance my professional competence and confidence. This additional training is helping me gain a deeper understanding of emergency care and patient assessment, ensuring I can bring real world knowledge and experience into the classroom.

I am passionate about making first aid training practical, engaging and accessible. My training room, located in the heart of Tiptree, provides an ideal learning environment where students can gain hands-on experience in a relaxed and supportive setting.

To enhance the learning experience, I use modern training equipment, including CPR manikins with visual feedback technology. This allows students to see in real time whether their chest compressions are achieving the correct speed and depth, helping to build confidence and competence in these essential life-saving skills.

Whether you are attending a workplace first aid course, learning CPR for the first time, or simply wanting the confidence to help in an emergency, my aim is to ensure you leave feeling capable, empowered and prepared.

After all, first aid is not just a qualification, it is a life skill that could one day help save someone’s life.
