Reiki symbols are used to channel a specific energy vibration during a reiki healing.  You will learn about the symbols on your Reiki second degree course, three symbols are shared/revealed, to help you access these energies. The symbols allow you to tune in to the different frequencies of the reiki energy, providing a great tool to treat either the physical body or mental/emotional body. The third symbol is used to create oneness and is used in distant healing treatments.

As you develop and cultivate a sensitivity to the energy and it’s ‘different flavours’ you can use your intuition to work with a particular energy.  The symbols were not part of the original reiki teachings, they were introduced later as a tool to more quickly access and familiarise yourself with the energies, rather than spending months meditating on each of them.

At mastership level you are introduced to a few more symbols, the two master symbols and a selection which have specific uses, for example there is one for balancing the chakras,  and another that can help you work with your heart and soul, going deeper into emotional healing.

It is nice to work with the different energies and see what you feel as an individual, either using them in your practice with others or working on the self. If we have a specific area we would like to work on we can ask for a symbol to be shown to us, creating your own bespoke symbol for a particular use.

In 2018, I channelled two such symbols. The first I named ‘Hakini Flower’ I asked for a symbol to create clarity of mind and improve memory especially with the increase of dementia, and brain fog. (Hakini is the name of a hand mudra which creates focus). The second was ‘Calming Waters’ it was inspired by something my sister once told me about butterflies in the stomach. When we feel anxious and have that feeling, she told me to imagine that all my butterflies were flying in a circular formation instead of random patterns. This gives a soothing feeling, with a sense of flow to the sensation. So ‘Calming Waters’ was created to help with emotional anxiety especially when we feel it in the gut.

Guided by my intuition, I have been using both symbols for a few years now, I find them to be effective and useful in my treatments when needed.  I greatly encourage anyone who would like to create a symbol to use in their healing.

Ask, be open, and create!

UPDATE: 3/06/2023

I have another valuable symbol to share with you, a symbol that helps to heal the past. The intention behind this one is to help to clear emotions and energy blocks associated with past issues. Allowing a change in mental and emotional responses in the present.

This one I channelled to help my beloved rescue dog Luna, who seems to have some issues from her past, which is unknown to me.  Of course now the symbol is created, it can be used by anyone who wants to send reiki to past events. I have given instructions on how to draw it below, if you have any feedback on using these symbols, please leave a comment.
